Description
Why do human beings possess the mysterious but related emotions of wonder (“a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable”) and awe (“a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder)? This gift, aspects of which we share with some other animals, seems designed to make us stop and look outside of or beyond ourselves, to focus our hearts and minds on something that arrests and holds attention. This devotional looks at the spiritual, emotional and physiological aspects of these often-inexplicable limbic experiences and suggests reasons for and ways in which we might make them more central to our lives.
