Description
The closer one scrutinizes the scriptures, revelations, visions, and rationale offered for temple ordinances, the clearer it becomes that these ordinances most likely are not necessary for exaltation. For example, a close reading of D&C Section 138, widely viewed in the Church as impressive divine confirmation of temple work, instead reveals that numerous spirits are resurrected into eternal life without a single temple ordinance. A disciple of Christ encountering latter-day temple theology for the first time might worry that the Lord who looketh on the heart has become a Lord who looketh on checking the boxes. Further, if our temple theology is true, a good case could be made that God is unjust and prefers to divide families than unite them.
