Description
A once widely held belief among early Mormon fundamentalists was that a so-called “Lamanite prophet” safeguarded the keys of the priesthood somewhere in the jungles of Yucatan. The quest to locate this lost civilization ultimately affected the fundamentalist interaction with the Mexican Mormons of the Third Convention and also how “Lamanites” of Mexican descent understood and restructured the promises of the Book of Mormon to their understanding of the role of this latter-day prophet. . Moroni and Valeska examine how this once widely held belief among Mormon fundamentalists eventually passed into obscurity.
