Description
Many of us were taught to view scripture as literal history. However, once scripture is subjected to the historical-critical method, we see that this view is not tenable. Like Adam and Eve, we may feel compelled to leave what felt like Eden—a perfect garden where we had planned to stay forever. If we leave the safety of literal scripture stories and narratives, where do we go? Can we still encounter the divine and increase our spirituality if scripture is not historically accurate? If the Book of Mormon is a 19th-century text, can it still hold worth for us today? Leaving scriptural literalism can lead to spiritual growth and expansion in ways we never could have imagined.
