Description
Over fifty years, Exponent II has become the longest-running independent publication for Mormon women and gender minorities and has hosted some of the most urgent conversations of its time. From responding to Sonia Johnson’s excommunication, to advocating for resources for victims of abuse, to talking about abortion, Exponent II has prioritized sharing personal stories and building community over ideological purity. But for participants of a conservative, patriarchal religious tradition, engaging in even mild feminist activism risks one’s connection to family and church. We will go behind the scenes of key moments of Exponent II’s history and explore what the internal tensions and external pressures shaping the staff’s decisions reveal about the Women’s Movement, the LDS Church, and Mormon feminism.
