Description
We are living in the Anthropocene—a period of geological time defined by human domination of the Earth’s great habitats and biogeochemical cycles. Currently, we are experiencing widespread ecological breakdown, including environmental pollution as the leading cause of preventable disease, and disruption of the Earth’s climate system. As with with many other faiths, Latter-day Saint scripture calls us to care for God’s creation. This session focuses on saving Great Salt Lake, the largest saline lake in the Western Hemisphere,. Around the world, nearly all saline lakes are in decline, and there are no examples of such a lake being restored. Can the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the broader Mormon community play a role in turning the decline of Great Salt Lake into the first comeback story of its kind?
