And now I’ll show you the Sunstone artifact that means most to me.
About ten years ago, Karin Peter, who was a Seventy for the Community of Christ, had become one of Sunstone’s board members. Her husband was a patriarch for the Community of Christ, and one day, she brought him over to the Sunstone offices to do something that never would have occurred to me. She brought him over to give Sunstone a blessing.
It was summer, so, as we stood in the front room, light shone in through the windows, bathing us all in warmth. Karin and her husband set this sphere on a table in the middle of the room, and we gathered around it.
As with most sacred experiences, I don’t remember the words Karin’s husband said. I just remember how it felt to be there. It felt grounded. It felt substantial. It felt as if somehow Sunstone really was important enough to get a little extra energy from the universe. And whenever I see this sphere, I remember that feeling. I remember that Sunstone has been blessed. And that we’ll make it through whatever rough patches come our way.
Pay no attention to the wine glasses. I swear we only use them for orange punch.
