Dr. Martha Bradley-Evans is a professor in the College of Architecture + Planning who teaches history and theory classes.  Between 2002 and 2011, Dr. Bradley served as the Dean of the Honors College and in July 2011 became the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies.   An award winning teacher, Bradley is the recipient of the University of Utah Distinguished Teaching Award, the University Professorship, the Student Choice Excellence in Teaching Award, the Bennion Center Service Learning Professorship, the Park Fellowship and the Borchard Fellowship.  In 2008, she received the Honorary AIA Award from AIA Utah.  She is the vice chair of the Utah State Board of History and is chair of the Utah Heritage Foundation. 

Her books include:  Kidnapped from that Land:  The Government Raids on the Short Creek Polygamists; The Four Zinas:  Mothers and Daughters on the Frontier; and Pedastals and Podiums:  Utah Women, Religious Authority and Equal Rights.  Her latest book is the newest biography of Joseph Smith, Glorious in Persecution.

Her most recent work on spatial religious communities maps the distinctive patterns, meanings and practices of communal religious groups such as the Branch Davidians, the FLDS, and the Family or the Children of God as they imagine and construct spatial worlds.  Her past scholarship has been in three main areas:  Public History, Gender and Community, and Religious Community.

Saturday’s event will be followed by evening song and fun in the Nauvoo house, provided by folks at the Rational Faiths blog.

LODGING:

Nauvoo House Rental Information

We will be bunking together in the Historic Nauvoo House for two nights (Friday, October  14th, Saturday the 16th).

The Nauvoo House is located on the bank of the mighty Mississippi and directly across the street from Joseph and Emma Smith’s Homestead and Mansion House, it provides the perfect setting from which to explore beautiful Nauvoo.

Space is VERY LIMITED and we can only take reservations for 50 people. Attendees will need to bring their own sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. The sleeping arrangements are open (bunk style) with twin bunk beds. Bathrooms and showers will be shared. Think of it as Mormon EFY, but for adults!

We will be bunking together for two nights with gender neutral sleeping assignments. The sleeping arrangements are camp-style in open rooms. You will not have a private room. If you wish to attend the retreat, but not bunk with us, please contact Lindsay at Lindsay@sunstone.org to make arrangements.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided on Saturday the 16th and breakfast on Sunday morning the 17th. Your registration fee will cover the cost of your lodgings, your tours, and your meals.
