The Globe Editorial and Mormon Feminist Activism In October 2000, Mormon feminists made history by publishing a group statement in the Boston Globe. What began as a private feminist e-mail discussion in September 2000 quickly caught fire and within two weeks became an editorial with fifty-six signatures. The editorial was re-published one week later in the Salt Lake Tribune with the signers’ names. This historic statement resembled a declaration of independence. What prompted this sudden surge of feminist activism? What was its purpose? What did it accomplish? And what does it indicate about the status of Mormon feminism?
