TWO ROMNEYS AND THEIR PURSUIT OF THE WHITE HOUSE This session explores aspects of Mitt Romney’s background that have led to his current campaign to become the first Mormon President of the United States. The panel will explore (1) the Romney family’s background, going back to the late nineteenth century and their settlement in Mexico, and the social-political impact of their experiences; (2) the unsuccessful 1968 presidential bid of Mitt’s father George and the lessons it taught his son; (3) George Romney’s political activities after his campaign; and (4) comparisons and contrasts between the two Romneys’ pursuits of the presidency forty years apart.
