Description

What kind of grief results from spending your entire twenties in Young Single Adult wards and never marrying? For many, this grief is invisible, dismissed, or minimized. Yet it is profound.

This presentation examines the unique shame, developmental stagnation, and second-class treatment experienced by unmarried members between ages 18–31 in LDS YSA structures. Constant messaging around marriage as worth, guidance from leaders who did not share the same reality, and the persistent feeling of falling behind create a grief that few outside the experience fully understand.

Drawing from personal narrative and the healing impact of community grief retreats, I explore how communal acknowledgment transforms isolated sorrow into shared validation. When we name this grief, those who carry it feel seen. And that visibility becomes a form of healing.

Daniel Carter is a Reiki Master, and the founder of Temperance the Star: Vessel of Healing. He provides energy work through Reiki healing, shadow work, intuitive energy transformation, grief circles, and guided meditation. He has a BS in Social Work and an MS in Conflict Resolution. He was a deeply practicing Mormon till he was 31, and has since explored intentional personal spirituality through many mystical methods.
