An Historical Interpretation of Contemporary LDS Attitudes Concerning the Theory of Evolution

An Historical Interpretation of Contemporary LDS Attitudes Concerning the Theory of Evolution A generally conservative approach to the theory of evolution can be seen among many leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today. Historically, this was not always the case. With the passing of time, attitudes have become increasingly conservative, with an emphasis on a literal interpretation of the LDS canon. This presentation will argue that these trends are a result of historical circumstances, in contrast to any fundamental reliance on doctrinal orthodoxy. As far as theories of origins are concerned, Latter-day Saints are welcome to look to science as well as to religion for help in finding answers regarding the mode of creation.
